What We Stand For Is Only the Beginning

The Brooklyn Young Republicans and several other young activist groups often chant the tenets of “Reform” in politics; however, what does reform actually mean?
For instance, we Reformers know what we’re against, both locally and federally. We know that we’re against the status quo. We know that corporatism and socialism has been glorified as the be-all-end-all means of politicking and that is effectively wrong. We’re against high taxation and the manipulation of markets. We’re against those abroad to physically threaten our citizens and their security. We’re against a lot of things, but what are we for?
I think the Reform movement in Brooklyn can be categorized into two pinnacles of stratagem.
1) We are for Transparency.
2) We are for Limited Government.
I think these two pillars of Reform are the branches that grow from the tree of Liberty. And from those branches come the leaves, the small issues that form the synergy of the Republican Party. Let’s review. Read the rest of this entry »
Brooklyn Young Republican Revolution

There is a deep rift in the Brooklyn Republican Party, in case you haven’t noticed from my previous posts. Back in September 2009, I was elected County Committeeman in my district under high political pressure. After my primary (of which I won by plurality of the vote), the party crack deepened and worsened. The County Convention was essentially between an old neoconservative who hoarded money (the incumbent), and a reformer who wanted to change the way the party runs. Needless to say, my proxy went to the reformer but the Brooklyn GOP establishment decided to run hate blogs against the more liberatian-minded people in the party. And so, the Brooklyn GOP split between libertarian minded youth (Brooklyn Young Republicans), and the GOP Establishment. Day-in and day-out, I have been working vehemently with many of the little rebels in the party system to help bring real change to conservatism in New York. Below is a video encapuslating the movement here in Brooklyn.
A Word On Liberty
Posted by Roy Antoun in Libertarian, Politics, Republicans on April 13, 2010
I recently posted a little commentary on the Brooklyn Young Republicans website. As the Club’s Communications Co-Chair, I find it imperative to communicate the importance of liberty and political dissent. You can read here or below.
The message is clear and precise. Old politics have expired and a new age of youth-induced communication and grassroots efforts are on the verge of exponentially taking the Tea Party into the streets of Brooklyn. We must hold our elected officials accountable for what they are worth and we must uphold the liberties that our Creator has endowed us with through our Constitution.
What Brooklynites should understand is that it’s acceptable to disagree with a party platform if your own individual, personal beliefs are not in line with what the Brooklyn GOP leadership dictates. Youth are humbled and principled. They are the future catalysts of a movement rapidly spreading across the nation. It is the youth who will be paying the price of today’s mistakes in blood and treasure.
Liberty is contagious and attractive; every human being on this earth yearns to be free in some respect or another. Consequently, you have a right to dissent and debate. The current establishment is what has led us into crisis and no one else will get us out except for the motivated youth determined to solve the problem through principled, classically liberal polities and politics. The words of Benjamin Franklin continue to echo in our ears, “Those who sacrifice Liberty for Security deserve neither.”
Let us stop sacrificing old, mainstream GOP politics and uphold our liberty to choose, dissent, and debate. Let us stop sacrificing principle for a few meager seats in office. “In style, sway like the wind. In principle, stand like a rock.” – Thomas Jefferson
